Why is my roof valley leaking?
Good question! Unfortunately, because roof valleys tend to bear the brunt of the British elements, they’re prone to various issues that can lead to leaks. Due to their job of channelling rain and the debris that comes with stormy weather, plus the weight of snow and ice in colder months, the integrity of your valleys and the surrounding flashing can become compromised.
Older roofs and their materials also generally succumb to wear and tear over time, and any heavy winds that catch under the tiles adjoining the valley can also cause tears and weak spots in the area. Of course some leaks are caused by other issues, so the first step is to have a survey carried out to check the root cause of the issue and potentially save further work down the line.
Aluminium, GRP and lead valley replacement process
Every job is a little different, but generally we’ll go through the following steps for most valley replacement and repair works:
- Full roof survey to identify where and what the problem is
- Remove the damaged flashing by lifting the surrounding tiles
- Install the aluminium, GRP or lead replacement valley
- If required, allow area to dry
- Replace the surrounding tiles (with like-for-like new if any are damaged)
